What is Glutathione?
Glutathione—also called “the master antioxidant” —is hard at work, removing free radicals from every cell of our body. Our body needs increasing levels of glutathione as we age, but our ability to produce the powerful antioxidant diminishes over time.
What are the health benefits of Glutathione?
Glutathione interacts with toxins by binding them to make the toxins water-soluble so they can be eliminated from the body. Inflammation, alcohol consumption and illness can lead to the depletion of glutathione. Reduced glutathione levels have been linked to a wide range of conditions and issues, including: Alzheimer’s, Autoimmune disorders (rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, psoriasis, Crohn’s disease), Cancer, Cardiovascular diseases, Chronic liver disease, Cystic fibrosis, Diabetes, Fibromyalgia, High blood pressure, Infertility, Mental health disorders, Multiple sclerosis, Obesity, Parkinson’s disease, Stroke, Thyroid disease. Increased Glutathione levels by supplements of Glycine and N-acetylcysteine has been shown to extend life span by up to ~24% in animal studies.
Does Glutathione have any side effects?
A diet high in glutathione contents does not pose any health risks. However, taking supplements may cause abdominal cramps, bloating, allergic reactions, such as rash, in rare cases.
